Life Hurts... God Heals reviewed by Amy SondovaBy Amy Sondova When Simply Youth Ministry decided to put together a curriculum to help hurting students, they thought of everything right down to parental consent forms, adult sponsors, follow-up support groups, and even training for leaders on how to present this material to teenagers. Life Hurts...God Heals is an all-inclusive 13-week course developed by the brilliant minds of Doug Fields, Jim Baker, and Megan Hutchison.  Based on the 12-Step recovery approach, Life Hurts uses eight steps to enable students to begin dealing with their pain from a healthy, godly perspective. This is a resource that every youth ministry should consider buying.  It is far superior to any other program, secular or Christian, on the market.  Life Hurts isn’t an emotional sob fest, but a real program that allows students to examine themselves in a safe, controlled atmosphere.  It also forces students to take control of their own lives, deal with their own pain and sin at the heart level, and then take action steps to not only begin their healing process, but to also make amends for the pain they may have caused others.  This resource is also an excellent launching point for students who may need professional help.  In learning to open up with trusted adults and peers, a student may then be referred for more help as needed.

leelandBy Amy Sondova and Melissa Brown A best-selling album, a GRAMMY nod and several Dove Award nominations, a new marriage, and the Feb. 26 release of sophomore album, Opposite Way—that’s a lifetime of accomplishments for 19 year-old Leeland Mooring, frontman of the band, Leeland.  The band’s first album, Sound of Melodies, was heralded by audiences and commanded attention and respect from the pillars of the Christian music industry, including Michael W. Smith, Casting Crowns, Switchfoot, and Chris Tomlin.
In addition to the band’s namesake, the band is comprised of Leeland’s big brother, Jack Mooring (keys/vocals), the Mooring boys’ cousin Jake Holtz (bass), and friends Mike Smith (drums) and Matt Campbell (guitars).  In hot demand, the band has been touring nearly non-stop for the past two years, which has given them a lot of time to craft an album that continues the excellence that excited audiences in Sound of Melodies.
